AC Schnitzer's 2008 BMW 1-Series Cabrio Tuner Package

After the success of the AC Schnitzer’s sport tuned BMW 1-Series Coupe, the German tuning specialist is back with another tuned 1-Series version. This time its the BMW 1-Series Cabriolet Sport Package. AC Schnitzer have modified the droptop's interior and exterior plus is offering tuning packages for every model in the BMW 1-series lineup, including the 135i, 120d and 123d.

Power upgrades have resulted in boosting top of the line BMW 135i’s output from 306 to 360 hp horsepower, while the output from diesel mill in 120d jumps from 177 to 200 hp and the 123d's from 204 to 240 hp. To go along with all the power bump, AC offers you two suspension options, a regular sport suspension and a height adjustable racing suspension.

The visual upgrades of the AC Schnitzer BMW 1-Series (ACS1) Cabrio include a new front bumper, rear bumper with diffuser and side skirts. On the inside it gets a 3-spoke sport steering wheel, an aluminum cover for the BMW's iDrive System, silver carbon fiber trim, as well as a new gear knob, pedals and floor mats. The speedometer in the tuner version of Bimmer 1-Series now goes all the way up to 320 km/h (200mph). The AC Schnitzer body kit for BMW 1 Series Cabrio also include the chromed dual-pipe exhaust and a choice of 17", 18" or 19" alloy wheels.

While the all-wheel-drive 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR is powered with 2.0 liter 4-cylinder 16-valve DOHC MIVEC engine that makes 295 hp horsepower and 300 ft-lbs. of torque.

2008 BMW 1-Series Might Not Succeed

BMW has lot of expectations from its small baby 1 Series. But things don't seem to be working in its favour. Read below why chances of success for BMW 135i and BMW 128i are very bleek.

The new car has the same engine as the 335i, meets the same American crash requirements, and satisfies the [marketing] need for four seats....

The front end is contempo BMW, but the headlights are more cubist X3 than sleek 7-Series.....

The trunk looks like it's taller than it is deep....

In fact, the overall exterior looks like someone stuck a 3-Series coupe in a trash compactor....

The 135i's interior offers a welcome return to basics. The 135i's cabin furnishings are identical in quality to those found in the 3-Series....

The 135i's front seats are horrendous; they get negative five stars. Each....

The 135i's back chairs will not accommodate anyone: you, me, children...

Zero to sixty takes just 5.1 seconds (says BMW) — and time well spent it is too...

It's too bad the rest of the car is just luggage....

The 135i's steering is unnecessarily heavy, even artificially so; helming the 135i is a ton of work (literally).....

2008 Comparison BMW 135i, BMW 128i & 3-Series

Here is a brief comparison between the new BMW 2008 1 Series Coupe and BMW 3 Series. Comparion also include similarities and differences between 1 Series ie BMW 135i & BMW 128i.

Type:
Both the 128i and the 135i come as coupes and convertibles, but not as four-door sedans as 3 Series.

Engine:
The 1-Series cars use the same engines and transmissions as the bigger and heavier 3-Series. The 1-Series base car, the BMW 128i, has a 3.0-liter, 230-horsepower inline six-cylinder engine. The BMW 135i has a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder, too, but with twin turbochargers, pumping out 300 horsepower, the same engine found in the BMW 335i.

Transmission:
Both offer six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

Suspension:
The 135i has a standard sport-tuned suspension that is firmer than the suspension on the 128i. The 1 Series uses the same set up as the 3 Series with an aluminum double-pivot front suspension and a five-link fully independent rear.

Size:
Both are the same size. Compared to BMW 3-series they are about 9 inches shorter, wheel base is four inches shorter and the car's width is two inches less.

Exterior:
Compared to the 3 Series coupe, the 1 Series features a more upright grille and a C-pillar that's not as sleekly styled. From the outside, both 1 Series coupe trims look quite similar, but the 135i is more sporting, outwardly identified by the larger standard 18-inch tires and wheels, compared with the 128i's 17-inchers. The 135i also gets a standard rear spoiler and an "aerodynamic kit" for the lower body. Xenon headlights with an auto-leveling feature are standard on the 135i, optional on the 128i. One of the biggest differences between the 1 and 3 Series is in their looks. The 3 Series looks classic and regal. The 1 Series does not.

Seats:
Front seats in 1 Series are firm and supportive. Rear seats are best left for sub-5-footers.

Price:
The 128i starts at $28,600, and the 135i starts at $34,900 and 3 Series start at about $40000.

Colors:
There are 11 available exterior colors for 1 Series, but only three are free, and the other eight cost $475 each.
